WHAT TRFC MEANS TO GEORGE
WRITTEN BY GEORGE BREMNER
To begin with I was never the biggest fan of sports, I never really thought they were fun of found the point in them, but something changed three years ago. It was the morning of the Turriff show in 2023, it was a sunny and warm day ahead, I got up, got dressed and left around 11am with my family. It took a few minutes to get in because it was the second day of the show, so people mainly came for the free horse show.
Anyway me and my family first entered and I immediately saw different types of tractors and vehicles. I liked the look of everything as we passed, then we entered the second part of the show, and this is where I saw such amazing stuff. There was almost double the numbers of stalls, but one caught my attention, and this was the Turriff Rugby Club. I liked the look of it so I asked my parents if we could go check it out, they said yes so we started to head over. It was a decent big stall and in this stall there was a man pulling a massive tractor tire. I was just speechless at the amount of strength this man had to be able to pull a tire so big, but then I decided to try out the other stuff. Luckily of me the tackle bag was open and there was a man observing and guiding me on what to do. So I charged and tackled the bag with everything I had and managed to flip it over onto its back. After a few minutes my Mum was talking to some other guy and that guy handed her the clubs business card.
After we got the card and then got home, we had a look and it said training was every Tuesday and Thursday, we we decided to go and give it a try, but on the day we decided to go there was a change so we decided to go on the Thursday. I actually got there and had tons of fun, and before I knew it I actually started to like sports, I liked it because of the people who were there. They were genuinely nice and funny, I felt like I had known these people for more than just a couple of days, so I kept going.
Skip forward two years, they knew me by name, they knew my Mum and they supported me through hard times. One summer I was asked by one of the club members If I wanted to play in his charity match for Friends of Anchor, I said yes and so I played in it. To my surprise we won, I felt so happy, just to think two years before I hated sports, now I love this one specific sport, but I didn't just find a sport to play I found a community to play and share with. Three years earlier I never wanted to play or be part of any type of sport, but now I love this one specific one with a passion. Perks of also finally finding a good community is that it helped to boost my confidence and genuine mood. I find it impressive how so much can change once you find the right people to speak to.
To this day I still play and still enjoy going and thats because of the people who go. If this essay has a special meaning (which it does), the special meaning is mainly just to find something you enjoy with people you enjoy doing it with.
